This pause is to allow time for city and township officials to attempt to negotiate a new, mutually beneficial and encompassing agreement in regard to the city supplying water and sewer utilities to non-city residents. Following a motion by Councilmen Dennis Plegge, which was seconded by Councilman Jake Gano, and approved by unanimous consent, enforcement of city ordinance 850305-34, which lies at the heart of ongoing matter has been suspended for six months, effective from Wednesday.
The 33 Perry Township residents whose properties have a deed restriction mandating that should the property ever become contiguous with the city of Salem they annex into the city within 90 or may have their water and sewer utilities shut off were awarded a temporary reprieve at Wednesday evening’s committee of the whole meeting.
